Dear Members,
The Georgia Clay Council held a business meeting on February 16, 2008 at the home of Stacey Stanhope. The election of new officers was the main order of business. Upcoming workshops were discussed and plans were begun to revamp our website. Of course, food was involved and everyone had a great time.
Your new officers are President Fred Ellis, Vice-President Markus Maze, Secretary Laura Ellis and Treasurer Phoebe Maze.
As the newly elected President of the Georgia Clay Council I would like to express a very hardy thank you to all of the outgoing officers for the work they have done for the past year. I would especially like to point to the exhibitions at the Harris Art Center in Calhoun and The Cup Show at The Art Place in Marietta. Exposure to the public is an important benefit for both us as artists and the Georgia Clay Council. More exhibitions are in the works for this year. Regional Chapters of the Georgia Clay Council are also a possibility for this year.
Our first workshop for the year is March 1. Cameron Covert is the presenter and the subject is Image Transfer. This workshop is a steal for members at $25.00 and the Council provides lunch. A great time was had last year at the Andy Nasisse workshop. Those of you who attended spoke very highly of the experience as did Andy. We hope to see all of you at one or more of the events this year.
The second workshop is a saggar firing on April 20,2008 (NOTE DATE CHANGE!) . This workshop will be presented by A.J. Argentina.. The workshop will be held at Roswell Art Center West and is free for Georgia Clay Council members. And the last planned workshop for 2008 is a two day workshop presented by Ron Myers. This will be the weekend of November 15 & 16. If you have been to a Ron Myers workshop you know what fun they are, if not, you don't want to miss the experience. Come on, come all we will have a ball!
As President I would like to share some of the long and short term goals of the Georgia Clay Council. One of the first items to be addressed is the reworking of the website. This is a tool that is currently under utilized. I have already scheduled meetings with webmasters in the next two weeks. If any of you have suggestions please contact me at mudpuppy193@alltel.net .
Another priority is increasing membership. Each new member is a new resource. The ideas, talents and networking of all our members is what will make the Georgia Clay Council a strong , viable entity to promote clay art and clay artists all around the state. I urge every member to help increase our strength by recruiting new members. Remember they do not have to be clay artists to join. An interest in clay or the arts is all that is necessary to become a member.
Sincerely,
Fred P Ellis
President
